MUJER MARAVILLA

Cinco meses después de su debut, la Mujer Maravilla estaba 40 a 1 en una encuesta entre lectores sobre sus superhéroes favoritos. Ella es la gran dama del cómic, la más icónica e importante de las superheroínas del mundo. Pero aún así, su popularidad no es la misma que era en los años 40.

Entonces, ¿qué haces para levantar las ventas de la Mujer Maravilla? Bueno, aparentemente, llamas al niño bello de la DC Comics, Grant Morrison para que comente sobre los fetiches, sometimiento y sexualidad de Diana. ¿No creen que eso venderá? El sexo vende. La misma Gail Simone lo ha dicho en cuanto a Ártemis en el último número de los Seis Secretos, pero a ello llegaremos pronto, espero.

Para Marston, la Mujer Maravilla no era primordialmente un modelo a seguir para las niñas, sino el vehículo por el cual el haría que los jovencitos se acostumbraran a la idea de mujeres fuertes y dominantes.  Él creá que para el siguiente siglo veríamos la subyugación del hombre por las mujeres y que mediante la dominación las mujeres crearían una sociedad más amorosa.

Más y más mujeres están siendo las encargadas de dirigir naciones enteras, pero aún hay mucho por hacer. ¿Es tiempo de regresar a esas raíces, a esos mitos, a esos orígenes de la Mujer Maravilla?

Quizá DC Comics cree que si.

WONDER WOMAN: BONGADE & GRANT MORRISON.

Five months after her debut, Wonder Woman was rated a 40-to-1 favourite over her nearest male superhero rival in a readers' poll conducted by the publishers. She is the número 1 among superheroines and the most iconic woman in comics, but her popularity is not the same as it was back in the 1940s.

And what do you do when you want to boost sales for Wonder Woman? Well, apparently you call Grant Morrison to talk about Diana's fetish, bondage, and sexuality. Won't that sell? Sex sells. Even Gail Simone herself has said it about Artemis in the last issue of Secret Six, but we'll get to that soon. I hope.

For Marston, Wonder Woman was not primarily a role model for girls, but the vehicle through which he would get young boys used to the idea of strong, dominating women. He believed that the next century would see the subjugation of men by women, and that, through domination, women would create a more loving society.

More and more women are ruling contries, but there's still much to be done. Is it time to go back to those roots, those myths, those Wonder Woman origins?

Maybe DC Comics thinks so.

En las páginas de la Mujer Maravilla #33 nos enteramos de muchas cosas. Hubo la muerte de un dios y también el cambio de reinado. Pero antes de todo eso, Diana era atendida de sus heridas por Felipa. Fue entonces que nos enteramos de lo que verdaderamente impulsó a Genocidio a buscar la destrucción de Marvila.

La criatura fue hecha con el cadaver de Diana por magia y ciencia oscura y su motor eran los celos. Quería todo lo que ella tenía, todo lo que no podía comprender u obtener. Tomó su lazo, su misión, sus aliados, a su hermana... a su mejor amiga y hasta su futuro. Quería dejar a Diana tan vacía y sin significado como estaba Genocidio. No tenía más que la nada y deseaba que todos sufrieran lo mismo.

La historia se detiene al escucharse el tumulto de la Batalla a la Orilla de Paraíso. Y ahí la historia sigue su destino. Nos tomamos este momento para repasar lo que ha sucedido, porque pronto vienen noticias del futuro de Genocidio y las Amazonas.

In the pages of Wonder Woman #33 we discovered many things. A god died and a monarchy suffered changes. But before all that, Diana was taken deep into the heart of Themyscira to sooth her pain. It was Phillipus herself to took care of our Princess and there Diana told us what moved Genocide.

The creature was created using Diana's corpse by magic and black science and her true drive was jealousy. She wanted everything Diana had since she herself was empty and lacking an identity. Feeling like a carcass, she wanted everyone else to suffer the same. So she tried to take Wonder Woman's lasso, mission, allies, her sister, her best friend... and even her future with Tom Tresser. She wanted Diana empty and bereft.

Before more is told about this monster, Diana hears the sounds of the Battle on Paradise Island's shores. We have taken a moment to look back at what's happened because soon we discuss what we know of what's to come for WONDER WOMAN and GENOCIDE.

¿Ya se enteraron? No sólo tendremos tres cómics de LA MUJER MARAVILLA: LA NOCHE MÁS NEGRA comenzando en noviembre de este año, sino con él llegará de DC Direct una nueva figura de acción de MARVILA.

La noche más negra será la gran historia del Universo DC del año. Maxwell Lord regresa, los Gargaeranos zombi ahora son Amazonas y es sólo el inicio. Estamos seguros que será grandioso.

En cuanto tengamos la nueva imagen de Diana, se la traeremos.

Did you hear? We will not only have three issues of WONDER WOMAN: BLACKEST NIGHT starting in November 09, but also an action figure from DC DIRECT. Blackest Night will be the greatest DCU story of the year and since Maxwell Lord is coming back, the zombie Garganeans now share the title of Amazons, I'm sure it's going to be special.

As soon as we have the picture of Diana's new action figure, we'll bring it to you.

No sé a ustedes, pero a mi me parece terriblemente interesante el acercamiento entre ambos grupos. Y espero que Diana sea presentada como una maestra y alumna ante la cultura musulmana.

DC Comics has announced on THE SOURCE an upcoming crossover between the Justice League of America and The 99. Teshkeel Comics' the 99 is a group of islamic superheroes chosen to find 99 gems that contain different aspects of wisdom and energy once contained inside the Library of Dar Al-Hikma in Baghdad.

The miniseries will be written by Fabian Nicienza and so far we don't know who the artist will be. I cannot wait to read this story and find out how will Diana be shown approaching this culture. I pray they show her as a teacher and a learner, ready to embrace more knoledge and open to new ideas.

Si hay algo que me encanta de esta imagen no es sólo la fuerza con que se presenta Superchica, sino el valor que le da a su pasado: "Entrené con Batman y las Amazonas..."

Eso ya es enorme y me encanta que ella guarde con celo su entrenamiento y enseñanzas de Diana y las Amazonas. Realmente Superchica ha cambiado mucho en los últimos tiempos y siempre será una Amazona honoraria.

No es facil estar de vuelta. Pensar por dónde empezar con tantas noticias me tiene la cabeza casi tan mareada que antes. Pero bueno, este es mi bebé y estar lejos de él me pone igual mal. It's not easy at all to come back. Just to think about where to start with all the news we have has given me another headache. But this is my baby and I cannot be far from it. It's years now since I started updating it on a daily basis and I intend to continue like that. And honestly, if you have ANY symptom of influenza, run to your doctor.

Anyway, we're back and it feels damn good to be here!

Gail Simone sigue haciendonos rompernos la cabeza al pensar en las mil preguntas que quedan sin responder. Y aunque muchos se quejan y desesperan al no tener todas las respuestas, yo estoy contento de no saberlo todo. Así crecen mis ganas de leer el libro.

La última sorpresa es que ese OLÍMPICO u olímpica, eso del inglés que no tiene masculino y femenino si nos puede dejar pensando que puede ser de cualquier sexo, del título El Levantamiento del Olímpico -u olímpica como explicamos- podría bien NO ser AQUILES. Y si eso es verdad entonces quién es. ¿Un dios? ¿una diosa? ¿algún nuevo héroe o heroína? Tendremos que esperar por las respuestas.

Gail Simone keeps teasing us and making us want to go crazy with questions. While most people despair and want all answers, I'm fine not knowing all of it.

The latest is the fact that the OLYMPIAN referred to in the title of Rise of the Olympian might not be ACHILLES at all. So if that's true, WHO is this Olympian? A god? A goddess? A hero?  We'll have to wait to find out!
