MEMORIES OF WIZARD WORLD

Hi from Wizard World...
I just ran into (almost literally) Gail at my Marvel booth here at Wiz World. She was passing through with her husband and I recognized her and stopped her to talk. Talk about gracious, in this crowded, hot convention (which had literally just opened) she talked to me for 10 minutes (maybe more). Now, that's unheard of for a creator to talk to a fan for that length of time especially when it's not a signing.

(Gail Simone & Husband.)

(Anime Wonder Woman.)
So, speaking on behalf of the boardies, I told her how much we all loved her on the book (which, of course, she has to be aware of), and how much we respect the way she's treating our favorite character. We talked about Aaron's art (just bought a piece from him earlier today too, and had a great conversation with him which had me apologizing to him, but that's another post if anyone's interested), spoke about the proper pronunciation of Alkyone (it's AL KEY O NEE, think like you would pronouce it if it's Italian!), the Circle arc, the current arc, and where the book's going in the future.
I can not emphasize how absolutely wonderful and refreshing it is to speak with her (and her husband is amazing too! He even knows of our posts on the boards!). I've been in the "con" industry for about 10 years, and probably have done about 65 cons, and I can't imagine how many writers, artists, etc., I've had to deal with at my booths, or have gone to see at other people's booths.

(Mike D'Alessio & JLA)
VERY FEW, maybe 5 - 6 writers/artists have been, in my opinion, class acts when it comes to their fans. Many, enjoy their fans, and many love the meets and greets. But in my opinion (and it's only MY opinion), very very very few stand out as TRULY caring about the people who buy their work month after month and then come out to see them in person. Phil Jimenez. Greg Rucka. Terry and Rachael Dodson. Marc Silvestri (Top Cow). Paul Jenkins. These creator have inspired me when I've met them, done business with them, worked with them. Gail, now, is added to that list. I've met her in NYC. I was hoping to go to a signing here in Chi-town. I was thrilled at the run in today. To me, she is classy personified. Beyond the talent, beyond the fanboy-dom. Beyond the excitement of the show. She CARES about the book. She CARES about Diana. She CARES about the fans. She CARES about us boardies. (I joked that I need to get another hobby cause I spend too much time on here!).

I didn't want to post this message to say "HA! I met Gail and you didn't!". I wanted to post it because I am very grateful that the business I'm in allows me to meet some of the people I respect most in my hobby. I know there are so many fans that CAN'T get to the conventions because they're not exactly close to everyone and can be kind of expensive (and I'm not even talking the purchases at the show! I'm thinking of buying the cover from Lopresti for the next WW book! Should I?). I posted the post because I wanted to try and convey the sheer excitement of meeting someone so talented, that has put so much joy into my hobby. I wanted to try and give some of the other boardies who have never been to a con the sense of star struck awe you get when you meet someone like Gail. (Now listen, I deal with celebs all the time, and I was more flustered talking to Gail today then I was talking to many Hollywood film actors, so hopefully that puts it into perspective!).

(Gail Simone signing my t-shirt :-)

(Aaron Lopresti)
Oh... and I did some shout outs for my peeps on here to Gail... Erick (Nerites of course!), Ryan (wondermanRK), and Kyall. Gail says HI! Erick, I picked up a tee shirt with Terry's art on it for you and I'm getting Gail to sign it for you. I"ll send it to you when I get back to Jersey.
Hope you guys liked the post!
Best,
Mike

I forgot to mention this in the post...
When I mentioned some of the boardies who can't make it to the conventions, I obviously mentioned Erick right away (he's my fav boarie!). Gail's husband INSTANTLY said... "oh he's that guy with the awesome WW site!". I thought that was amazing that they recognized your site just from your first name. To me, that says a lot about the time they put into the fans.

Mike D'Alessio is an amazing source of energy.
He's not only talented and successful, but also the sweetest and most handsome friend anyone could ask for. He is a true angel and he will always be one of the best for us here at Marvila. You can find him at www.promoguys.com, his amazing promo company, or at Conventions working for Marvel (traitor). Just go for the gorgeous tall italian hot guy with the killer NY/ NJ accent. Yeah, go for the hottest one. That'll be him.
PS. The guys shown in pictures here deserve a great mention. These are kinds who spend time working on their own costumes to celebrate their favorite superheroes. Marvila takes a moment to celebrate kids who love costumes & comics!

Wonder Woman
Simone said that after the current barbarian arc, there will be a huge, epic story featuring Wonder's Woman's Doomsday. She faces a new villain called Genocide created from the mad scientists who obtained materials from the sites of genocides from the past 100 years. A new character named Kong the Untamed will appear.
Thanks Wizard Universe for the heads-up. But our doubt is... Why do they call him a new character when he appeared first in the 1970's. Kong is actually a direct descendent of Anthro who lately appeared in Final Crisis #1. It seems like it all comes together in the pages of WONDER WOMAN.
