MUJER MARAVILLA

Cinco meses después de su debut, la Mujer Maravilla estaba 40 a 1 en una encuesta entre lectores sobre sus superhéroes favoritos. Ella es la gran dama del cómic, la más icónica e importante de las superheroínas del mundo. Pero aún así, su popularidad no es la misma que era en los años 40.

Entonces, ¿qué haces para levantar las ventas de la Mujer Maravilla? Bueno, aparentemente, llamas al niño bello de la DC Comics, Grant Morrison para que comente sobre los fetiches, sometimiento y sexualidad de Diana. ¿No creen que eso venderá? El sexo vende. La misma Gail Simone lo ha dicho en cuanto a Ártemis en el último número de los Seis Secretos, pero a ello llegaremos pronto, espero.

Para Marston, la Mujer Maravilla no era primordialmente un modelo a seguir para las niñas, sino el vehículo por el cual el haría que los jovencitos se acostumbraran a la idea de mujeres fuertes y dominantes.  Él creá que para el siguiente siglo veríamos la subyugación del hombre por las mujeres y que mediante la dominación las mujeres crearían una sociedad más amorosa.

Más y más mujeres están siendo las encargadas de dirigir naciones enteras, pero aún hay mucho por hacer. ¿Es tiempo de regresar a esas raíces, a esos mitos, a esos orígenes de la Mujer Maravilla?

Quizá DC Comics cree que si.

WONDER WOMAN: BONGADE & GRANT MORRISON.

Five months after her debut, Wonder Woman was rated a 40-to-1 favourite over her nearest male superhero rival in a readers' poll conducted by the publishers. She is the número 1 among superheroines and the most iconic woman in comics, but her popularity is not the same as it was back in the 1940s.

And what do you do when you want to boost sales for Wonder Woman? Well, apparently you call Grant Morrison to talk about Diana's fetish, bondage, and sexuality. Won't that sell? Sex sells. Even Gail Simone herself has said it about Artemis in the last issue of Secret Six, but we'll get to that soon. I hope.

For Marston, Wonder Woman was not primarily a role model for girls, but the vehicle through which he would get young boys used to the idea of strong, dominating women. He believed that the next century would see the subjugation of men by women, and that, through domination, women would create a more loving society.

More and more women are ruling contries, but there's still much to be done. Is it time to go back to those roots, those myths, those Wonder Woman origins?

Maybe DC Comics thinks so.
